| It is coming up... it is going to be good. My hearing is Wednesday
(yikes!) and it is going to go well. Please please please come because
this is such a huge deal for me. For a performance major, recitals are
bigger than graduation. Some spots are still fishy, but in general I am
pleasantly surprised at some of the things that are coming out of my
horn. After that, I will probably get a good take of the Pakhmutova and
Intrada for the solo competition, then pick some new literature to work
on. I'm thinking about Neruda, more Bach, work on some vocalises not
usually played on trumpet, and the daunting Tamburg Concerto.
Also, I have a cool girlfriend. Not sure if I mentioned that or not..
it is nice when people put the same kind of effort into you as you do
them. There is just one thing missing from all of this.. anyway if you
come to my recital you can meet her and shake her hand and laugh and
smile and congratulate me on an excellent catch. I'm looking forward to
showing her around the town, introducing people, then locking ourselves
in a room for the rest of the.... I mean, enjoying each other's company
=)
New job is going well.. selling tickets is kind of fun because I get to
see the events and learn about the hall and help spread the arts. My
coworkers are really nice for the most part. And ordering Jimmy Johns
pretty much rocks.

Quick update: Speaking of birthday, my friend Adam had a good idea to post the wish list on his blog so I shall do the same:
1) 2-1/2C Bach mouthpiece -- I've always wanted to try one. I play a 2C
now and I get a great sound on it but it is not great for being able to
just go out and play on.. more of a solo/work up mouthpiece... it can
be kind of a trick getting it to do what I want. Maybe this one will
behave a little more commercially. Other trumpet stuff would be CDs
(particularly Alison Balsom's new album Caprice, anything by
Dokshitser, Trumpet in Our Time by Ray Mase, On the 20th Century by
Wynton Marsalis, anything by Freddie Hubbard and Clarke Terry). Also,
can never have enough mutes.. particularly I could use an aluminum
bubble mute, some kind of bucket mute, and a plastic Bach straight.
2) Books - I need a comprehensive Shakespeare collection, since at the
moment I am making my way through six hours per week of the man's
literature via Shakespeare-online.com and a lot of paper out of Cheek
Hall. I could also use good collections of One-Acts and even full
length plays.. Arthur Miller and Eugene O'Neill would be a good place
to start, but anything could be helpful. I could also use a cook book
with cheap and easy meals, or even more complex meals.. doesn't matter
too much, I would just like to learn how to make more than microwave
chicken.
3) Clothes - nice squishy socks, a black stalking hat, any kind of
boxers, t-shirts, sweaters, etc. I have my eye on a second kashmere
sweater, but it is expensive. We'll see. I could also use some new
black Docks.
4) Some sort of iPod would be nice. If I could ever get my computer
working, that is. Also in the electronics area, a new video card would
be nice. I could also use a new power supply because I think part of
the problem is the whole rig is underpowered.
5) Misc. items - a Parker Jotter pen.. I have always loved that pen but
I lost my last one and can't find them anywhere so if you see one let
me know. Also, nice chocolate would be good. I could use a recipe for
chocolate so I could learn how to make my own. Also, gourmet soda is
fantastic and cheap (particularly Jones, but anything other than Pepsi
products would be fine). I also like candles because I just put them on
a heat plate and let them melt and it smells nice.
6) Music -- I need a collection of Bach works transcribed for trumpet.
I could also use concert duets by Plog and others. Other music like the
Tamburg concerto, Tomasi, vocalise collections, Schlossberg.. I could
*really* use complete parts for the Tomasi Fanfares Liturgies piece I
plan on putting together next semester.
7) My girlfriend. She's so great. I'm going to get to see her that week
and I'm so excited. You are all really jealous and you should be
because we are something to be envied.
Okay, that's about it.

this group for a few months now and we will be presenting out debut
recital at First and Calvary (near Wehr) on Nov. 4th at 2:00PM. We will

junior recital! Featuring the trumpet concerto by Alexandra Pakhmutova
and other works by Ravel, Rachmaninoff, J.S. Bach, and Joseph Turrin,
at Ellis Recital Hall. The fun starts at 7:00PM and might be over by 9. Mwahaha. andy
